With its distinct history and heritage and once an ‘early medieval kingdom’, the area that became known as ‘Glamorgan’ was a conflict point between the Norman lords and the Welsh princes, with the area being defined by a large concentration of castles, Caerphilly Castle to name one. After falling under English rule in the 16th century, Glamorgan became a more stable county and exploited its natural resources to become an important part of the British Industrial Revolution.
With such close proximity to Cardiff, the County Borough of Caerphilly is an ideal base with a fantastic blend of activities, stunning countryside and first class visitor attractions. With excellent rail links to Cardiff throughout the county borough, giving visitors the choice of city shopping and entertainment or the more laid back atmosphere of the County Borough of Caerphilly.
